Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Flagstaff AZ
914 AM MST Sun Apr 5 2026

.SYNOPSIS...Expect warmer weather today, with much lighter
southeast winds. Isolated showers and thunderstorms may form
around the White Mountains this afternoon, becoming more active,
along with greater coverage on Monday. Warm and dry weather then
returns from Tuesday onward.

&&

.DISCUSSION...A s/wv ridge over the area today will start to erode
the low-level easterly flow and the colder air that was associated
with it. Mid-level moisture pooling over west Texas, southern New
Mexico and southeastern Arizona will start to move northwestward
during the same time frame, potentially leading to some isolated
high-based convection over the White Mtns by this afternoon.

On Monday, a weak s/wv moves through northern Arizona. This will
remove any lingering easterlies and colder air aloft will provide a
more efficient high-based convection environment. Storm activity may
possibly reach as far northwest as the Kaibab Plateau. This activity
moves east Monday night, with lingering storms possible near the New
Mexico border.

Another s/wv ridge then develops for Tuesday, Wednesday and into
Thursday, with dry and warm weather expected. Stormier conditions
are possible by next weekend, but confidence is low at this time.

&&

.AVIATION...Sunday 05/18Z through Monday 06/18Z...Expect VFR
conditions with increasing mid and high clouds this afternoon into
Monday. Isolated -SHRA/-TSRA south of a KSOW-KSJN line from
22Z-03Z, bases AOA 10kft AGL. Sfc winds generally light, 10 kts or
less.

OUTLOOK...Monday 06/18Z through Wednesday 08/18Z...Expect mainly VFR
conditions. SCT -SHRA/-TSRA developing after 16Z-18Z Monday,
continuing into Monday evening. Brief MVFR conditions and
gusty/erratic winds possible in heavier showers. Drier conditions
Tuesday with an isolated shower near the AZ/NM state line.
Surface winds S-SW 10-15 kts Monday and W 10-15 kts on Tuesday.

&&

.FIRE WEATHER...Sunday and Monday...Increasing mid-level moisture
will lead to isolated, high-based showers and thunderstorms over
parts of southern Navajo and Apache counties today. Storms will
increase in coverage and frequency for Monday, persisting into
Monday night. Expect southeast winds 5 to 15 mph today, turning
south to southwest 10 to 20 mph on Monday.

Tuesday through Thursday...Dry conditions return, with above normal
temperatures. Expect west winds 10 to 15 mph for Tuesday, becoming
southwest 10 to 20 mph Wednesday and then 15 to 25 mph on Thursday.

&&

.FGZ WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...None.
